Armature resistance is the ohmic resistance in the main current-carrying windings of an electric generator or motor. Without this, a machine would need to use much more energy and its speed could not be as fast.

How do you calculate armature resistance?

You calculate armature resistance by taking the voltage of your series DC motor and reducing it to a smaller number, then dividing that number with how much current is running through your system. You’ll get an easier-to-read value for resistence after you apply this formula: ((Voltage – Ea)/Ia)-Rs = Ra (resistance).

What is the purpose of armature resistance?

The variable resistances in elements within a circuit are often used to control power and speed. In certain cases, it can be as simple as adjusting an oven timer or stove knob! Changing this particular electrical element will change current flow through that specific section which affects voltage drop due to its effects on applied voltages (and consequently speeds).

Why is armature resistance low in DC motor?

Armature resistance is low in DC motors because of the need for sufficient winding resistances to restrict current drift. However, this can cause problems with performance as any armature resistance will decrease the amount of electricity generated by a generator and thereby make it less efficient.

What is the resistance of armature winding depends on?

The resistance of armature winding varies inversely with the length and cross-sectional area, so doubling either one will decrease total resistance by a factor of four. The number does not affect this because it is proportional to resistances; adding conductors just divides each conductor’s contribution according to how many there are.

What is armature control method?

The armature control method is a special case of the series DC motor drive, in which power to the drive coils are controlled by varying voltage across them. This allows for precise speed and torque adjustments as well as braking without needing any external components such as variable-frequency drives or choppers.

How do you calculate armature current?

There are a number of factors that come into play when figuring out armature current. The most important is the applied voltage, but also take back emf and resistance into consideration.

What is armature inductance?

Armature induction is the measure of how much a current will be altered as it passes through an electrical conductor. If you do not have information about this parameter, set its value to any number small enough so that there are no adverse effects on your motor performance but large enough for calculations with other parameters such as flux density and resistance in series.
